Apex Legends: Mad Maggie Guide

Mad Maggie By Captain Carry-min

Margaret Kōhere aka Mad Maggie, a woman who grew up with only Fuse as her “family” in the sorriest corners of Salvo. These two siblings-in-arms became mercenaries together in the Split Greenhouse which is an underground military group.

Over the years she has made a name for herself, Mad Maggie, but when she saw her rival Sandringham Kelly abandon the fight to make a pact with the syndicate and her brother in arms abandon her for the Apex Legends games her heart was filled with hatred. We can see her madness very early on when she sabotages the entrance of our good old Fuse by controlling his ship on the day of his arrival. Some time later, Maggie is captured by the syndicate but thanks to the “kindness” of Eduardo Silva (Octane’s father you will have understood of course) she finds herself condemned to participate in the Apex game, in a way they found each other for better or for worse !

First of all, let’s start with a rather original liability, you know Bangalore runs faster when she is shot ? Well, our mercenary Maggie runs faster when she has a shotgun ! Do you know what that means? Learn to master the shotguns in the game and you’ll become very oppressive and aggressive. Basically, as soon as you hold the shotgun in your hands you will run as fast as if you were not carrying a weapon, which is great! (Reminder: When you’re not fighting put your weapons away you’ll run faster!) If you want an accurate number to gauge where you stand when playing with a shotgun in your hands you’ll run 15% faster, 15% speed boost is a real life saver! You think it’s over? Well no, you are faster than the other legends even when you aim a shotgun! It’s like moving as fast as octane while almost aiming.

Let’s talk about her second passive which is directly related to close combat as for her speed boost with the shotgun. Mad Maggie sees a highlight about 1 second after she puts a bullet in him ! Let’s imagine that you are in close combat in a staircase and that you shoot once at the enemy, you will be able to see him coming and know directly where to aim to put a big bullet in his head ! Not only will you have a considerable advantage over the enemy since you will be one bullet ahead of him. But ALSO he will be surprised, because there is no indicator that you are spotted by Maggie’s scan as if you were a bloodhound or a crypto, so he will want to run away so you will just have to chase him like the real mercenary that you are !

Now let’s talk about her asset, you can directly link it to her heart brother Fuse you will see. Maggie has a Riot Drill which is a sticky incendiary grenade that can be thrown (not as far as a Fuse grenade). Let’s talk numbers, the grenade takes 1 second to stick to the surface and activate to spit out continuous flames that will put 160 damage in 9 seconds if the opponent is very slow, more precisely each flame tick puts a -8.

We understand that the active and Maggie and Fuse are quite similar, they are made to block our enemies or explode their doors, but Fuse has a more imposing active because it can throw two small grenades while Maggie has only one Riot Drill and the enemies can pass through without having continuous burns as if it was a lambda incendiary grenade But on the other hand the Riot Drill is very oppressive against people who block a door because they will always have a minimum of 24 damage before moving away from the door because the tic is so fast! You just have to stick your grenade against the door and rusher that defenseless person with the shotgun and you automatically win.

There is one very important thing to take into account though: the thickness of the wall you stick your grenade against. If you stick your active against a very thin wall (a door for example) the flame will spread over 5 meters which is huge, from 3 meters your flame becomes smaller and smaller so you will put less damage to the opponent be very careful! The maximum thickness to do damage is about 10 meters.

Let’s put ourselves in a combat situation, let’s imagine that you are in a duel against someone and that there are two different views, you can very well stick your sticky grenade on the right to be able to aim at him on the left when he is going to arrive! With a bit of luck he’ll even take a few tics of damage and 16 damage can save your life. Or let’s say there is an enemy on the ground in a building locked by rampart walls or a person and one of the team members reanimates him, you just have to fire a little Riot Drill and they will be forced to cancel the reanimation to shift and you gain at least 5 seconds to catch them!

Tired of Gibraltar’s bubbles? Maggie is your woman! The Riot Drill will be able to spit its flames through the bubble of our good old giby and force him to come out of his hiding place where he is having his little nap. Important info : you can’t stick a person! The sticky grenade will hit him with 5 damage and then stick to the ground next to him, so don’t try to put a -5 instead of a -24 or a -160 for the more experienced. A technical info : It has 22 seconds of reload but since it reloads as soon as you throw it in reality you have only 13 seconds to wait so you can spam very well.

Our warlord has an ultimate that has two main effects and two methods of use. The first way to use Wrecking Ball is to suddenly attack an enemy team, indeed Maggie will launch a huge wrecking ball and on its way the ball will leave small speed boosts that give you 30% more speed (With or without weapon there is 30%), and on top of that if the ball hits enemies they will not only be propelled but they will all be stunned and have an EXTREMELY blurred vision (worse than a smoke of bangalore !).
The second way to play this ultimate is to use it to flee extremely fast (especially on slopes). In fact if an enemy team is harassing you with snipers you can use your wrecking ball to run even faster to a safe area. Snipers will have a much harder time hitting you if you run from left to right in front of them or if you simply sprint faster.

If you crack the shield of an enemy you can very well throw your huge ball on him to knock him out and come to attack him with the shotgun, he won’t see you coming because his sight will be blurred and he won’t be able to flee very quickly, and even if he hides behind a door a little shot of Riot Drill and he will be sent back to the waiting room ! Let’s take another situation, a small octane blocks a door? pull your sticky grenade and as soon as the door gives way you throw your devastating ball in the room to hit everyone and put total chaos, you just have to enter and finish the kills.

Our developers have done it right and respected the character, Maggie is a completely crazy and wild mercenary, her speed and active scan passives clearly tell us that if you want to be a good Mad Maggie player you need to play shotguns and medium range weapons. That means you must have a shotgun, I’ll tell you that because it’s Maggie’s dedicated weapon style. With a shotgun ? Take a 301 or a Flatline it will do perfectly! And if you are an experienced player take your beautiful wingman and play with even more style! Indeed everything is made and thought for you to play in the first line, you just have to shoot your grenade or throw your wrecking ball to have a decisive advantage ! You don’t even need Bloodhound or Crypto to go into battle anymore, you just fire a little shot at a guy and see in which direction he is going.

I think you’ve figured it out by now, Maggie is not a long range shooter, so playing a sniper or a bow would not really pay off for this mercenary as she has very clearly hand to hand skills. You can put sniper bullets in, but what good are they? You’re going to score them when you’re 200m away. There’s no point in marking a person if you can’t kill them unless you’re a monster at a distance. If you put at 1 point of life the person will have just to hide behind a wall and the time that you run with your boost it will have had time to settle a small phoenix! No really privilege the medium and short distance respect Maggie 😉

Let’s be clear, you have to play the big spawns where there are a lot of people, if you manage the Riot Drill you will have a kill at the beginning of the game and a kill what does that mean ? You end up in 3 v 2 so you have a lot of chances to win the first confrontation ! And then if your enemy picks up the gun in front of you you just have to back up and place a grenade at the door step to block him.

After blowing up all the teams that dared to believe that they would take your spawn without problems you just have to hunt other enemy teams, I advise you to favor the surprise attack with your ult. If you see an enemy team wait until they are in a fairly flat environment (like the plains of Olympus for example) and you just have to hit one or two of them with your wrecking ball to be able to crossfire them and take them down in a few seconds. Right after that you just have to run at them (with 30% more speed thanks to your ultimate’s boost) to get your kills.

Our mercenary is an offensive character, as you read earlier your ultimate can very well be used to flee or to make a strategic retreat. You can play with a Gibraltar player so that he can put his bubble behind you and protect you from all the damage. Or play with a Bloodhound or Crypto so they can scan the enemy teams so you can throw your ultimate at the exact spot where they are and attack them brutally. Wattson is not recommended as his ultimate will destroy your ult and grenade if you are not careful enough! You can also make a more than chaotic fight by playing with a revenant who uses his totem or a caustic who uses his Nox right when you want to use your ball. A small duo Fuse and Maggie can be very strong too if you add their two ultimates with the totem of Revenant.

Here are the compositions that I could experiment in part and that are good :
Caustic – Revenant – Maggie
Gibraltar – Crypto – Maggie
Bloodhound – Gibraltar – Maggie
Fuse – Maggie – Gibraltar
Fuse – Maggie – Revenant
