Maelle One Shot Build Overview
It’s rare that an RPG build reaches the level of ruinous grandeur that Maelle’s one-shot build reaches in Expedition 33. After rigorous testing (and a few endgame bosses who came to unfortunate demises), I’ve distilled this build into a masterpiece that has similarly formidable weight from early-game mastery to post-game dominance. What you’re reading below is our Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Maelle Guide, breakpoints, and high-level optimization tricks.
Maelle Stat Distribution for One Shot Build
Extra Note:
With Esqium, put 99 points each into Defense, Agility, and Might. Earlier versions over-invested in Luck, this is now confirmed suboptimal if using Last Stand Critical for guaranteed crits.
One Shot Weapons
Which Weapon to Use for the One Shot Build
Both weapons can make Maelle hit incredibly hard, but they excel at different stages of progression. If you’re pushing endgame content and chasing the highest possible damage numbers, one option clearly stands above the other. Here’s when to use each weapon and why.
| Location | Verso’s Drafts |
| Stance Entry | +250% damage |
| Scales With | DEF · AGI · MIG |
| Synergy | Burning Canvas + AP Discount |
| Best For | Endgame one-shots |
Pro Tip:
Pair with AP Discount picto – Esqium’s AP cost makes this essential for Burning Canvas on Maelle’s second turn.
| Location | Gestral Village (post-Mile) |
| Stance Entry | +200% damage |
| Scales With | AGI · DEF |
| Synergy | Does NOT cleanse buffs |
| Best For | Early-mid game |
Note:
Still viable for Nihil Extremis builds or if using Last Stand Critical + Inverted Affinity stacking before Esqium is available.
Common Mistakes
Why My Build Does not Deal 1.4B Damage
Even with the right party, weapon, and skills, a few common mistakes can cut your damage by hundreds of millions. Before chasing better gear or stats, make sure you’re not sabotaging your own rotation. These are the most common issues preventing Maelle players from reaching the build’s true damage potential.
Sciel’s Buff Disappears on Last Chance
Fortune’s Fury applies to the next turn, not the next attack. If Maelle uses Last Chance on that turn, Sciel’s ×2 buff is consumed and wasted. Fix: Maelle must use Last Chance before Sciel activates Fortune’s Fury + Intervention.
Medalum Was Nerfed (Stendhal)
Medalum’s synergy with Stendahl was patched. Esqium is now the recommended weapon for Burning Canvas builds. Medalum remains usable early-game but is outpaced by Esqium with proper stat distribution.
Don’t Equip Cheater on Maelle (Esqium builds)
In the Sciel-buffed rotation, Cheater interferes with turn sequencing. Let Verso or Sciel use Cheater. Maelle’s second turn comes from Sciel’s Intervention, not Cheater.
Tested Build: 107M → 1.4B+
Players who corrected Sciel turn order and switched to Esqium reported jumps from ~4M to 107M+ in a single session. With full optimization (burn stacks, mark, Gradient Overcharge), 1.4B+ is achievable.
Combat Order
For the Build to Work you need Optimal Turn Rotation
This build isn’t just about the gear you equip, it’s about executing every action in the correct order. A single mistake in turn sequencing can waste key buffs, reduce your burn stacks, or completely ruin your damage window. Follow the rotation below exactly to stack every multiplier before unleashing Maelle’s one-shot combo.
Speed priority: Maelle → Verso → Sciel
Maelle must go before Sciel to use Last Chance first. Then Sciel uses Fortune’s Fury + Intervention so Maelle fires her nuke with the buff active. Verso handles burn stacking and mark application between their turns.
Setup & Last Chance
Maelle Turn 1
Apply burns / marks with quick attacks to consume AP. End with Last Chance, this enters Virtuoso Stance, reduces HP (enabling threshold buffs), and refills AP. Do this before Sciel acts.
Last Chance MUST happen before Sciel’s buff
Burn Stack & Mark Application
Verso Turn 1 + Cheater
Use Corpeso / Contorso weapon for extra burns per hit. Spam quick attacks + base attacks to pile on burn stacks. Use Cheater on Verso (not Maelle) to get an extra turn. Apply Mark if possible. Aim for 100–200+ burn stacks.
Target: 100–200 burns before Maelle’s nuke
Fortune’s Fury → Intervention
Sciel Turn 1 + Cheater
Cast Fortune’s Fury on Maelle (×2 multiplicative damage boost — not just +50%). Then immediately use Intervention on Maelle to grant her an extra turn with AP. Use Cheater on Sciel to do both actions. Optionally apply Mark here too.
Sciel’s buff = ×2 multiplicative — massive
Burning Canvas / Stendhal
Maelle Turn 2 (Buffed)
All multipliers are active. Fire Burning Canvas (or Stendhal for single-hit). With Virtuoso Stance, Sciel’s ×2, burn stacks, Gradient Overcharge, Inverted Affinity, Mark, and crit — this is your nuke window.

One Shot Build Damage Multiplier Breakdown
The reason this build reaches absurd damage numbers is that multiple independent multipliers stack together rather than simply adding more attack power. Understanding where your damage comes from makes it much easier to identify weak links, optimize your setup, and maximize every Burning Canvas cast.
Here’s a breakdown of the biggest damage sources contributing to the final hit.
| Virtuoso Stance (Esqium) | × 2.50 |
| Sciel’s Fortune’s Fury | × 2.00 |
| Inverted Affinity | × 1.50 |
| Gradient Overcharge (3 charges) | × 2.00 |
| Shield Affinity (shields active) | × 1.30 |
| Last Stand Critical (guaranteed crit) | × 2.00 |
| Stay Marked / Mark on target | × 1.50 |
| At Death’s Door (<10% HP) | × 1.50 |
| Roulette proc (50% chance) | × 2.00 |
| Peak Combined Multiplier | ~87.75× |
Pictograms
Let’s Break Down the Picto Priority
Not every Picto contributes equally to the build’s final damage output. Some are mandatory because they enable key mechanics, while others simply add extra multipliers on top. Prioritize the core picks first, then fill remaining slots with recommended and optional choices based on your progression, available resources, and preferred playstyle.
Do not equip Cheater on Maelle
Cheater belongs on Verso and Sciel in this build. Maelle’s extra turn comes from Sciel’s Intervention, adding Cheater disrupts the buff timing and wastes Sciel’s Fortune’s Fury.

Best Farming Zones
Where to Farm and Test your Build
Before you start farming, it’s worth knowing where to actually put your hours. Renoir’s Sketch Dungeon delivers the best XP and material returns once unlocked, while Endless Tower Floor 11 is your testing ground for verifying the build’s damage ceiling. If you’re still early-game, start at Gestral Arena to secure foundational Lumina before tackling the tougher zones below.
