Marvel Rivals How to Play Spider-Man Guide Introduction

Welcome to your ultimate How to Play Spider-Man guide in Marvel Rivals. If you’ve just logged into the game, browsed through the colorful roster, and decided to dive in with the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler you’ve made a great choice. You’re in for one of the most fun and mechanically satisfying heroes in the game.

Spider-Man is a five-star difficulty duelist and backline assassin, with high mobility and close, ability-chaining play. In this guide, I will walk you through his abilities, combos, and tips to start dominating your games.

How To Play Spider-Man: Abilities

Spider-Man’s play is a matter of mobility, burst damage, and sneaking in his Sticky debuff, also known in-game as Spider-Tracer. His damage comes largely from being able to chain abilities using this Sticky debuff successfully, and hence timing and precision become the key to his effectiveness.

Spider Power (Primary Attack)

This is Spidey’s default melee combo:

  • 2 Punches → low damage, fast
  • 1 Kick Finisher → slower but with higher damage and longer range

Also, whenever Spider-Man does some movement maneuvers like his double jump, he can trigger an overhead that provides more variability to his melee chain.

Web Cluster (Alternate Attack)

This is your range utility tool. Spider-Man fires a projectile which gradually recharges and applies a Sticky debuff to enemies that he hits. You’ll be saying “Sticky” a lot, it’s at the center of his entire kit.

Enemies who have the Sticky debuff receive additional damage when hit by Spider-Man’s other damaging tools. The Sticky is used when this bonus is applied.

Web Swing (Ability)

Iconic and stupidly mobile—Web Swing enables Spider-Man to zip around the map with a maximum of three charges. You can swing consecutively in a row, building speed and reaching the backline in seconds. Web Swing is a requirement for repositioning, engaging, or retreating.

Being a master at Web Swing is essential if you want to punish out-of-position enemies and maintain your survival.

Get Over Here (Ability)

This skill is a pull or gap-closer depending on if your target is Sticky or not.

  • If NOT Sticky: Spider-Man pulls towards him the enemy.
  • If Sticky: Spider-Man pulls himself toward the target, setting up a close-range follow-up.

The order of operations in your combo becomes very important with this interaction. Use Sticky before using this skill if you like to jump to your target rather than pull them towards you.

Amazing Combo (Ability)

A powerful uppercut that launches enemies into the air. This ability has two charges on a short cooldown.

  • If the enemy is Sticky, the uppercut will consume the Sticky to deal bonus damage.
  • Unlike in some games, this air-launch doesn’t open up enemies (they can still act) so it’s not safe to follow up with additional attacks unless you score the kill or disengage quickly.

Thwip and Flip (Ability)

A standard double jump that lets you keep combos going, reposition, or avoid danger. It’s a bread-and-butter movement mechanic, but also required for triggering Spidey’s overhead melee attack.

Spectacular Spin (Ultimate)

Spider-Man’s ult is a spinning AoE that puts Sticky repeatedly in a wide circle. If the enemies stay within the range for the duration, they stun for a short time.

It’s great at zoning, objective-locking, or punishing clumped enemies in narrow spaces.

Passive Abilities

Spider-Sense

Flashes and sounds a warning when an unsuspecting enemy closes in on you. Helps keep you alive in wild fights or captures flankers.

Wall Crawl

Allows you to stick to walls and ceilings, scaling them for rapid ambushes or trendy escapes.

Team-Ups (Unique)

Synergy is valuable for teams in Marvel Rivals. Spider-Man has two Team-Up bonuses:

With Squirrel Girl (Passive): Permanent 10% damage boost. It’s a permanent buff throughout the season because she keeps their synergy intact.

With Venom (Active): Provides Suit Expulsion, a hard-hitting AoE knockback that stuck and peels off enemies from you.

Spider-Man’s Best Combos

If you want to really know how to play Spider-man in Marvel Rivals, combos are the most important thing to focus on. He’s not a sustained-damage brawler since he’s mainly an In-and-Out assassin. Hit fast, hit hard, and get out before they realize what happened.

Bread and Butter Combo

Your go-to finisher for squishies.

  1. Get your target in the bag with Web Cluster
  2. Rush in with Get Over Here
  3. And then straight after, come at them with an Amazing Combo (Uppercut)
  4. If safe: then come in on another Sticky → Melee attack as the finisher
  5. If not: disengage with Web Swing

This will take out most supports or low-health targets outright.

Pull Variation

Good for when you can’t get Sticky first but get raw hook.

  1. Use Get Over Here to pick up the enemy
  2. Immediately Sticky → Punch
  3. Repeatedly Sticky again → Uppercut

Good ender for open enemies caught out of position.

Kick Variation

Style points and burst optimal:

  1. Start with Sticky
  2. Jump to target with Get Over Here
  3. Play out kick animation
  4. Punch once to spend Sticky
  5. Sticky again → Uppercut for most damage

A bit longer, but the damage spike is worth it if you can pull it off.

How to Play Spider-Man: Tips & Tricks

These are the fundamentals you need to understand to thrive as Spider-Man.

Avoid Tanks

Don’t waste your time with Vanguards (you don’t have the sustained damage to break through massive health pools). Instead, target low-mobility, backline heroes like:

  • Luna Snow
  • Adam Warlock
  • Black Widow
  • Moon Knight
  • Hawkeye

These heroes will get hurt without help and can’t escape if you pin them and jump in.

Always Weave Stickies

Never spam melee without Sticky. All your utility and bonus damage come from consuming the Sticky debuff. It’s the difference between wiping a squishy or being the one who returns.

Disengage Often

Spider-Man is not a tank. It’s sufficient to come in, pop the burst, get out, and wait for cooldowns to come up again before you start firing again. To bail out is just as much a skill as to enter.

Practice Movement in Training

Web Swing and combo execution require tight input timing. Spend time in training range perfecting combo strings and swing momentum. You’ll feel the payoff when it clicks.

Use Spider-Sense Proactively

Don’t underestimate your passive. The audio and visual alert will be a lifesaver if someone is sneaking up behind you. Trust it. React fast and move to another position if needed.
