Musashi’s progression is spread across several parts of the game rather than one simple level grind. Fighting Genma provides Souls, exploration leads to treasures and other useful items, Souls and treasures feed equipment and ability upgrades, and Oni powers give Musashi new options in both combat and exploration.
Soul Farming & Character Progress
Genma battles feed directly into Musashi’s progression through the Souls you collect along the way. Those Souls can then support the upgrades and abilities you are working toward, making repeated combat an important part of building your character.

Onimusha Way of the Sword Has More Than One Grind to Get Through
A player can be comfortable cutting through regular Genma and still hit a wall when a major fight demands tighter Deflects, better Stamina management or cleaner Issen timing. Another player may have no trouble with the combat at all but simply not want to spend their available game time collecting Souls, searching side routes or working toward several upgrades.
The wider Kyoto sections add another layer. Rifts, Malice, demonic barriers, story encounters and Oni powers all affect where Musashi can go next, while Souls, treasures, gear and abilities affect how prepared he is when he gets there. That is why an Onimusha boost makes more sense when it targets a specific part of the run instead of treating every order like generic leveling.
Where Does the Onimusha Grind Usually Start to Stack Up?
